mCallz: Sales Call Script Template and Examples, Explained Step by Step
A sales call script is a planned route through a sales conversation: how you open, why you are calling, what you ask, which value you offer and how you ask for the next step. mCallz keeps each answer you collect on the lead, so the next call on that route starts where the last one stopped.
- A five-part template that fits B2B and B2C calls
- A complete appointment-setting script, line by line
- Discovery questions grouped by what they uncover
Calls go out on each phone's own SIM. Dialer, CRM and WhatsApp for ₹4,000 per user a year (₹333/month), down to ₹208/month for bigger teams. GST extra.
- Works on the SIM in each phone
- Android, iPhone and web

The short answer
What is a sales call script?
A sales call script is a written framework for a sales conversation that sets the opener, reason, questions, value statement and closing request in order.
mCallz gives reps who phone from their own mobiles a place where the answers a script uncovers are kept as data rather than memory. When a prospect rings back or is called again, a full-screen card shows their name, pipeline stage and latest remark before anyone says hello. During the call the rep can open the whole record, including custom fields created for discovery answers such as team size or current supplier. When the call ends, a two-tap sheet saves the stage, the remark and the follow-up time, and that follow-up rings like an alarm at the chosen minute, so the next step agreed in the close actually happens. Every product detail above was checked against the app's feature list as it stood on 14 October 2026. The template and examples below suit any market and any product sold by phone.
- Earn the next thirty seconds before trying to earn a meeting.
- Questions should outnumber claims on every call.
- Close for a calendar slot, not for "I will think about it".
Benefits
Sales call script benefits for reps and managers
A repeatable opener
Reps stop reinventing the first sentence, which is where many calls are won or lost.
Discovery that gets done
Written questions make sure timing, the decision maker and budget come up on every call.
Fair comparisons
When everyone follows one structure, a manager can tell whether results differ because of the list or the rep.
Faster onboarding
New reps rehearse one template and a few examples instead of shadowing colleagues for weeks.
Cleaner hand-offs
Answers captured in the same order let an account executive pick up a booked meeting without re-asking.
The template
Sales call script structure: opener, reason, questions, value, close
Five parts, always in this order. The timings are rough guides for a first call of about four or five minutes; the invented company sells on-site first-aid training.
Opener (about 10 seconds)
Your name, company and a check that you have the right person: "Hi, is this Daniel Hughes? It's Amy from Northline Training." Then pause and let them answer.
Reason for the call (about 20 seconds)
One sentence that links the call to them, not to your product: "I'm calling because you look after safety for the warehouse team, and first-aid certificates for firms your size often expire in spring."
Questions (2 to 3 minutes)
Two to four open questions, asked one at a time: "How do you handle first-aid training at the moment? When did the team last renew?" Note each answer before asking the next.
Value (about 30 seconds)
Tie one benefit to something they just said: "You mentioned shifts make classroom days hard. We run the course on site in two half days, split across shifts."
Close (about 20 seconds)
Ask for one specific next step: "Would a fifteen-minute call with our course planner on Tuesday at 10 or Wednesday at 2 suit you better?"
Booking meetings
Sales call script for appointment setting
In appointment setting, the first call sells the meeting, not the product. Below is a complete script for a rep booking demos of a scheduling tool sold to dental practices. The names and the product are invented.
Rep: "Good morning, is that Priya, the practice manager? This is Tom from Rotaly. Have I caught you at a bad time?"
Prospect: "I have a minute. What's it about?"
Rep: "Thanks. We help dental practices fill short-notice cancellations. Most managers I speak to lose a few appointments a week to late cancellations. Is that something you see?"
Prospect: "Yes, Mondays especially."
Rep: "How do you try to fill those gaps today?" (Listen, then one more.) "And who else would be involved in choosing a tool for that?"
Rep: "It sounds worth a proper look. Our product specialist can show you the waiting-list feature on screen in twenty minutes. Is Thursday at 1 or Friday at 9 better for you and the lead dentist?"
Prospect: "Friday at 9."
Rep: "Done. I'll send the invite to your email straight after this call. Just to confirm, that's Friday at 9 with you and Dr Shah. Thanks, Priya."
Notice what this script leaves out: no pricing, no feature tour and no attempt to sell on the spot. Its only job is a confirmed time with the right people in the room.
Questions to ask
Sales script discovery questions grouped by purpose
Write ten or twelve, then choose three or four for any one call. A first call that fires every question feels like an interrogation.
- Current situation: "How do you handle this today?" "Who does it, and how long does it take each week?"
- Problem: "What is the most frustrating part of the way it works now?" "What happens when it goes wrong?"
- Impact: "What does that cost you in hours or lost sales each month?" "Who else feels it?"
- Timing: "Is there a date by which this needs sorting?" "What else is competing for attention this quarter?"
- Decision: "Besides you, who would want a say?" "How have you chosen a supplier like this before?"
- Budget: "Is money set aside for this, or would it need approval?" Ask it last, once the problem is clear to both of you.
Examples
Sales call script examples for B2B and B2C calls
B2B: getting past the receptionist
"Hi, it's Amy from Northline Training. Could you help me? I'm trying to reach whoever arranges staff first-aid courses. Is that usually HR or operations?" Asking for help, rather than demanding a name, gets more transfers.
B2B: returning an inbound enquiry
"Hello Mark, Sam from Ledgerwise. You downloaded our payroll checklist this morning. Was that for a project you are working on now, or research for later?" The answer tells you whether to book a demo or schedule a check-in.
B2C: calling a web lead
"Hi Jess, it's Ollie from Brightside Windows. You asked for a quote on replacement windows yesterday. To get the figure right, how many windows are we talking about, and are any of them bay windows?"
B2C: upgrading an existing customer
"Hello Mrs Clarke, it's Ravi from Greenway Broadband. Your contract ends next month, and with three people streaming at home the faster plan may suit you better. Shall I compare the two for you now?"
Voicemail
"Hi Daniel, Amy from Northline Training, about first-aid renewals for the warehouse team. I'll try you again on Thursday morning, or you can reach me on 0161 496 0000." Keep it under twenty seconds and say when you will call next.
The last-attempt call
"Hi Mark, I've tried you a few times about the payroll checklist, so I'll assume the timing isn't right and leave it there. If that changes, my number is in my email." It is polite, and it often prompts a reply.
Day to day
Sales call scripts in practice: notes, follow-ups and reviews
A script is only as good as what happens to the answers. In mCallz, create custom lead fields for the discovery answers you care about, such as company size, current supplier or renewal month, so they can be filtered later instead of being buried in free text.
Set up pipeline stages that mirror the script, for example Contacted, Discovery done, Meeting booked, Proposal sent, Won and Lost. The after-call sheet records where each call ended, and the lead status history shows how long prospects sit at each stage.
When a prospect says "call me in two weeks", pick the matching preset or a custom date. The reminder rings like an alarm and stays open until it is marked done, so the promise made in your close is kept. If the phone records calls itself, mCallz can import those recordings, which lets a manager and a rep replay a call against the script during coaching.
At a glance
Sales call script replies for tricky moments
| Situation | What to say | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| "Just email me something." | "Happy to. So I send the right thing, what would you want it to answer?" | Turns a brush-off into a question that reveals interest, or confirms there is none |
| "We already use someone." | "Makes sense. What would they have to get wrong for you to look around?" | Finds the weak spot in the current supplier without criticising it |
| "There's no budget this quarter." | "Understood. When is next year's budget set, and who puts it together?" | Moves the opportunity to the planning date instead of losing it |
| "I'm not the right person." | "Thanks for saying so. Who would you suggest, and may I mention you pointed me to them?" | A named referral gets a warmer reception than a cold transfer |
| "What is this about?" (receptionist) | "It's about first-aid renewals for the warehouse team; who looks after those?" | A short, specific reason sounds like business rather than a pitch |
| "Try me again after the holidays." | "Will do. Is the first week back or the second better, and what should have changed by then?" | Secures a date plus the condition the prospect is waiting on |
Honest limits
Sales call script limits: what a script will not fix
Even a strong script fails in some situations:
- A poor list. If the people you call have no need for the product, better wording only earns a politer no.
- Complex late-stage deals. Calls with engineers or finance teams near a decision need preparation for that account, not a generic template.
- Rigid reading. Scripts break when a rep cannot leave them; teach the purpose of each part so reps can improvise inside the structure.
- Unsolicited calls in regulated markets. Many countries limit sales calls to people who have not opted in, so check local rules before using any script on a bought list.
Worked example
Sales call script example: a Manchester training firm booking discovery calls
A workplace first-aid training company in Manchester, United Kingdom. The business is an illustration, not a named customer.
Northline Training sells on-site first-aid courses to warehouses and factories around Greater Manchester. Its three reps share one five-part script: the opener, a reason built on certificate renewal dates, four discovery questions, one value line matched to what the prospect said, and a close that offers two times for a call with the course planner.
Each rep works an assigned list in mCallz on their own mobile. Discovery answers go into custom fields for staff numbers, shift pattern and certificate expiry month, and a stage called "Meeting booked" marks the calls that reached the script's goal. Every Friday the sales manager filters leads that got as far as discovery but not a meeting, reads their remarks, finds the question where those calls stalled and changes that one line for the following week.
Questions
Sales call script FAQ
What is a sales script?
A sales script is a prepared outline a salesperson follows during a call or meeting, covering how to open, what to ask and how to request the next step. Good ones work as guides, not speeches.
What is a good sales call script?
A good sales call script is short, asks more than it tells and ends with a specific request. It sounds like a person talking, leaves room for the prospect's answers and has ready replies for the three or four objections reps hear most.
How do you create a sales call script?
Start from the goal of the call, usually a meeting or a quote. Write one line each for opener, reason and value, three or four questions and a closing request, then test it on twenty calls and rewrite the line where most calls stall.
What are the steps of a sales call?
Most sales calls follow five steps: open and confirm you have the right person, give a reason for calling, ask discovery questions, link a benefit to what you heard, and agree a next step with a date.
What is an appointment setting script?
It is a sales call script whose only goal is a booked meeting. It skips pricing and detailed features, qualifies the prospect with a few questions and offers two specific time slots.
What should you say at the start of a sales call?
Say your name and company, confirm you are speaking to the right person and give one reason the call matters to them. Then ask a question, so the prospect is talking within the first fifteen seconds.
How many questions should a sales call script include?
Write ten or twelve, but plan to ask three or four on any single call. Too many questions make a first conversation feel like a survey.
What is an example of a B2B sales call script?
A short B2B example: "Hi, it's Amy from Northline Training. You manage the warehouse team, and first-aid certificates often expire in spring. How do you handle renewals today?" Then listen, ask one follow-up and offer two meeting times.
Should sales reps memorise their script?
They should memorise the structure and the key lines, not every word. Reps who know the purpose of each part can follow the prospect's lead and still steer back to the close.
How do you end a sales call?
End with a clear next step, a date, a time and who will attend, then repeat it back. If there is no next step, thank them and agree whether, and when, you may call again.
Which app keeps sales call script answers on each lead?
mCallz does. Discovery answers can go into custom lead fields, the latest remark appears on the caller card next time, and the after-call sheet saves the stage and the follow-up in two taps.
Can mCallz write a sales call script for me?
No. mCallz is a phone and CRM app for people who sell by calling, not a script writer; it records what each sales call script uncovers and reminds reps of the agreed next step. The template on this page is free to adapt.
How much does mCallz cost per sales rep?
Budget ₹4,000 per rep for a year (US$44.08) if you have up to four reps. From five reps the yearly rate per head drops in steps, and a sales floor of more than 20 gets a custom quote. GST comes on top, and a team simply pays for the reps who call.
Test your sales call script on the next twenty calls
Write the five parts on one card, make twenty calls and mark where each conversation ended. The weakest part is the one to rewrite first.
